Ruud U98MV
U98MV is the upflow Ultra modulating Ruud family listed on the Canadian manufacturer site. It is the relevant Ruud comparison when a buyer is considering a premium modulating furnace, but its strongest feature label does not establish that it is necessary for every house.

Manufacturer pictures & technical drawings
Exact cabinet drawing was not verified for this profile. Use the manufacturer sources below and request the selected model’s current dimensional sheet before ordering.
Capacity and installation fit
Ask for the exact Canadian full-model output and cabinet drawing. A family capacity band or an up-to efficiency claim does not determine the unit size. The installer should explain both peak output and lower-load operation in relation to the home, and identify any duct limitations affecting the intended airflow.
Compare the proposal, not just the badge
Compare the U98MV with a two-stage Ruud using identical site work and labour coverage. Record which EcoNet-compatible controls are included and what remains an optional accessory. If the premium is attributed to comfort, ask which existing complaint the proposed configuration is intended to address.
Evidence to request before purchase
For the U98MV, keep the complete suffix and the dated specification with the quotation. Have the installer identify the selected heating output, installation orientation and control arrangement in writing. A family maximum is not necessarily the rating of the unit supplied. Ask for the completed startup record and the current Canadian warranty certificate, including labour exclusions. This profile does not assign a failure-rate score or convert a warranty promise into evidence of longer life.
Cost, reliability & alternatives
No manufacturer-issued Canadian turnkey installed price was verified. Obtain a local quote specifying the Ruud-labelled model and complete work. Any Rheem comparison should use matching scope rather than assuming the brands must sell at the same price.
The available manufacturer material does not provide a Canadian failure-rate comparison between Ruud, Rheem or other brands. Shared corporate ownership is not a reliability ranking, and the usefulness of a warranty depends on its remedy and service arrangements.
