Goodman GRVT96
GRVT96 is the two-stage variable-speed option and illustrates why an exact-model comparison is better than a broad efficiency label. The linked current technical table includes 96.1%,97% and 97.5% entries. A catalog headline saying up to 97.5% therefore describes the ceiling, not every cabinet and capacity.

Family maxima and ranges are not the specification of every size. Obtain the complete model suffix, current output rating and dimensional drawing. Cabinet dimensions do not include all service clearances.

Capacity and installation fit
The reviewed input ladder is 40,000–120,000 BTU/h. Different blower and cabinet packages appear within the ladder. Ask the contractor to identify the row used for the heat-loss comparison and to explain the selected low-fire output. Choosing a higher maximum input simply to obtain a preferred fan package needs a documented system-design rationale.
Compare the proposal, not just the badge
The Canada MAP schedule lists GRVT96 figures of 3,270–4,684 before any inference about installed scope or currency. Compare a GRVT96 bid with GR9T96 by separating variable airflow and ComfortBridge from the shared two-stage concept. Ask which benefits are actually enabled by the proposed thermostat and installation.
Evidence to request before purchase
For the GRVT96, keep the complete suffix and the dated specification with the quotation. Have the installer identify the selected heating output, installation orientation and control arrangement in writing. A family maximum is not necessarily the rating of the unit supplied. Ask for the completed startup record and the current Canadian warranty certificate, including labour exclusions. This profile does not assign a failure-rate score or convert a warranty promise into evidence of longer life.
Cost, reliability & alternatives
Manufacturer Canada MAP ranges in the June 2026 workbook: GR9S96 standard variants 2,449–3,609; GR9T96 2,533–3,681; GRVT96 3,270–4,684; GRVM97 3,945–5,375. These are workbook price figures, currency not explicitly labelled in the examined table. They are equipment advertising references, not installed Canadian-dollar quotes; confirm currency and current applicability.
A lower quotation does not establish lower reliability, and a stronger warranty slogan does not establish fewer breakdowns. Request local parts availability, labour charges after the installation warranty, and measured setup results rather than relying on brand anecdotes.
