Bryant offers a useful parallel comparison to other established brands, but its own Evolution, Preferred and Legacy labels must be unpacked before a quote can be judged.
Reviewed 11 October 2026 · Canadian dollars where stated · Independent comparison guide
Bryant’s current Canadian selector includes 987M and 987T. Those are not interchangeable abbreviations: one is modulating and the other uses two heating stages. The same care applies to 926T versus 926S. Copy the full proposal model into the comparison record and ask the dealer to attach the manufacturer sheet matching that exact generation. A description such as “Bryant 97” leaves essential information unresolved.
Understand what Evolution buys
Evolution proposals can involve a communicating control and constant-airflow blower, while Preferred equipment may use a different blower and control arrangement. Ask for a demonstration of the features that will actually be enabled. A connected thermostat, remote service capability and room zoning are separate subjects; the presence of one should not be taken as proof that the other two are included in the price.
Use the catalog to frame questions
The Canadian model page is stronger evidence of market relevance than an unrelated American retailer listing. It still does not establish local stock, the chosen capacity, or the installer’s ability to support the unit. Before paying a deposit, obtain a firm equipment identification and a substitution policy. If a different suffix arrives, compare its published ratings and warranty before accepting the change.
Look beyond the warranty headline
A heat-exchanger replacement provision is not the same as an all-inclusive service contract. Request the actual certificate and ask about labour, diagnosis, travel and accessory exclusions. If Red Shield coverage is part of the offer, record which model and owner conditions apply. The paperwork should distinguish the manufacturer’s promise from extra coverage sold or supplied by the contractor.
Fit the house before selecting the tier
A replacement review should document heat loss, intended output, duct condition and the cooling system that will use the blower. The old furnace’s input number is an observation, not a design instruction. This matters especially when the home has received windows, insulation or air-sealing improvements. Ask why the selected size is preferable to the adjacent smaller and larger options.
Turn competing quotes into a fair comparison
Put the installed cash price beside the itemized scope, not beside a financing payment alone. Compare controls, disposal, permits where required, filter arrangement and labour protection. Request written reasons for any large difference from an equivalent quote. If those reasons remain unclear, a second independent appraisal is more useful than asking AI to declare one dealer dishonest.
The 987M is the modulating Evolution family. Its Canadian page advertises up to 98.5% AFUE, while the current downloaded Canadian-market certification rows located for its prefix topped out at 98.3%. Treat this as a configuration-verification question rather than substituting either number indiscriminately.
The 986T offers an Evolution two-stage proposition. Compare it with the 987T at the same house load and with the same thermostat included. This prevents a price comparison from mixing equipment efficiency with a different control package.
A 987T is two-stage; it should never be described as the modulating 987M. A one-letter error in a sales summary can change the promised equipment behaviour. Ask for the complete signed equipment schedule and compare it with the delivery documentation before installation.
The 926T is a useful middle-tier comparison because it offers two heating stages without automatically implying the Evolution control platform. Ask what the selected thermostat controls directly and how the installer verifies that both stages operate as intended.
This Preferred model is a two-stage option whose manufacturer maximum reaches 97% AFUE. Compare the chosen configuration with a 926T quote before assuming that the label change creates a large annual saving. Ask for the arithmetic and the fuel-use assumptions.
The S in this reviewed family corresponds to single-stage gas operation. The variable-speed wording describes the blower and must not be presented as modulating heat. A buyer comparing quotations should record those two attributes in separate columns.
Legacy 916S provides a baseline single-stage comparison within Bryant’s Canadian selector. Its family capacity span is broad, making the exact selected configuration particularly important. A small unit and a large unit under the same name should not share a single installed-price assumption.

Comparison basis
No verified current national installed CAD price schedule was found. Compare an itemized local proposal for the exact model, controls, installation work, tax treatment and labour coverage. A large unexplained gap deserves an independent second opinion after scope is normalized.
