A specialised downflow product
The manufacturer’s MG3S introduction identifies a two-stage condensing furnace with a constant-torque ECM blower for manufactured housing. Current Intertherm catalogue information gives 80,000 Btu/h input, while the Canadian-market certification records reviewed report 96% AFUE. Confirm both against the complete ordered model.
The input is not the same field as heating output. Ask the supplier for the rated output of the exact revision and the load assessment supporting the choice. Do not select this unit merely because an older manufactured-home furnace had a similar number on its label.
The home connection is part of the product decision
A downflow appliance requires the correct air path and installation accessories. Have the installer document the proposed duct connection, return-air arrangement, filter location and access for service. A cabinet that physically occupies the old space is not sufficient evidence of a compatible replacement.
Ask whether the existing cooling coil is retained and what assessment supports that choice. If changes are required, the estimate should identify them separately. The cost of a compliant complete installation may differ substantially from the price of the furnace box.
Canadian evidence and ownership questions
The EPA list contains Intertherm-labelled MG3S entries with Canada among their markets. That supports inclusion in this comparison but does not confirm distributor stock, a delivery date or approval for the particular dwelling. The Canadian supplier should resolve those points in writing.
Ask for the applicable warranty, registration responsibility and local parts route. Manufactured-housing experience may be valuable, but this guide has not established comparative Canadian failure rates. Keep the inspection evidence and itemized scope available for independent review; seek another appraisal when an important requirement or a substantial price difference remains unexplained.
Before authorizing the order
Before installation, request confirmation that the supplied model, accessories and orientation match the approved proposal. Document any change as a written variation. This is particularly valuable for specialised housing, where a substitute that appears similar in a catalogue may require a different connection arrangement.
Cost, reliability & alternatives
Obtain a dated, itemized Canadian-dollar quotation identifying the exact furnace, accessories, labour, venting, drainage, electrical work, removal, permits where applicable, tax and warranty obligations. Compare the same scope; an unexplained large gap warrants another qualified opinion.
