Keep the output and efficiency labels intact

The manufacturer lists average delivered efficiency of 77% HHV and separately lists overall efficiency. Those terms should not be collapsed into one “AFUE” value. Its delivered heat range is also different from the energy contained in a full fuel load. Ask the heating designer to use the appropriate tested measure and explain how the proposed fuel and operation relate to it.

This distinction matters when comparing a wood furnace with an automatic gas system. The question is not which brochure has the biggest number; it is whether the designed system meets the house’s heating need under a realistic operating plan.

The cabinet is only part of the space required

The published physical dimensions help identify the appliance, but clearances, access, fuel handling and chimney arrangements require a much larger installation assessment. Ask for a plan that includes those needs. A basement location that accepts the cabinet may still be inappropriate once the complete solid-fuel installation is considered.

If an add-on arrangement is proposed, the exact current Canadian manual and approved configuration must govern. Do not combine instructions from older Caddy models or a United States arrangement. Have the qualified installer document the proposed connection to any existing furnace and the relevant approvals.

Price the operating commitment as well as the equipment

A complete estimate should include required venting, ductwork, inspections and the chosen blower or accessory package. Ask about fuel preparation, routine service and replaceable parts before deciding whether the household wants this form of heat. No annual savings or reliability score is promised here. The consumer’s protection is a clear scope, correct product documentation and independent review where the installation or cost assumptions are uncertain.

Cost, reliability & alternatives

No verified, scope-complete Canadian installed price is assigned to this brand. Compare the exact equipment, labour, site alterations, commissioning, tax and warranty terms. A large unexplained gap between comparable written proposals warrants clarification and an independent second opinion.
