Decide what the pairing adds
If the proposal includes a Bosch IDS heat pump, ask the installer to describe the control arrangement and the operating transition between heat sources. Request the exact matched equipment and the functions that arrangement enables. A system advertised as communication-ready still needs the appropriate components and setup.
If no heat pump is included, judge the furnace on its own heating fit, service access and written installation scope. Do not pay for a vague future promise without understanding which later changes would be needed and whether existing equipment would have to be replaced.
Read the selected-model row
Use the registry examples as identification aids, then obtain the current technical sheet for the exact ordered unit. The largest or most efficient family member is not necessarily the right choice for the home. Input and output are separate ratings, and cabinet dimensions cannot be inferred safely from a partial model name.
Ask the contractor to show the heat-loss result, chosen delivered output and required airflow. If the existing return, filter or coil restricts airflow, the proposed remedy belongs in the scope. A constant-airflow motor does not remove the need to evaluate the duct system.
Keep the handover useful
Before final acceptance, retain the installed model and serial number, operating instructions, commissioning record and warranty-registration confirmation. Ask who responds to a winter fault and what labour costs remain outside the parts warranty. Those commitments make the service arrangement clearer without pretending to predict a failure rate.
Use the current manufacturer manual to review dimensions and application constraints with the installer. The linked document is a technical reference, not permission for unqualified gas or electrical work. Compare any quote changes after appraisal with the original written scope and ask for an explanation of material differences.
Cost, reliability & alternatives
Request a dated, itemized Canadian-dollar quote. The guide’s seller benchmarks are context, not a Bosch price schedule. Compare the complete system and investigate a large unexplained gap with a second opinion.
No numerical comparative Canadian failure-rate ranking established.
