What a furnace installation proposal should show
Make the work and verification visible before comparing brands.
Document the existing conditions
A useful appraisal records the existing model, fuel, duct connections, filter arrangement, venting, drainage, electrical supply and physical access. Photographs help preserve what was observed, but measurements and a qualified assessment are still needed for design decisions.
Ask the contractor to identify which components will remain and why they are suitable for the proposed furnace. An existing vent, coil or control should not be assumed reusable just because retaining it reduces the quotation.
Specify the work
The written scope should identify the selected model and capacity, controls, transitions, vent and intake work, condensate handling, electrical work, removal and commissioning. Permits and inspections should be addressed where applicable to the job and jurisdiction.
If two proposals differ, compare those line items before deciding that one contractor is simply expensive. Conversely, a low total may omit a needed change. Ask both contractors to price the same base scope and explain optional upgrades separately.
Keep the handover records
Request the owner’s manual, warranty registration, installed model and serial number, and commissioning records appropriate to the equipment. Have the installer show normal user controls, filter access and the safe response to a fault without asking the homeowner to perform combustion or electrical service.
Record the business responsible for follow-up and the labour-warranty terms. These documents cannot guarantee that no repair will occur, but they make the installation and support commitments reviewable. A brand comparison is more useful when the installation quality is not left as an invisible assumption.
