Rheem’s Canadian lineup makes the distinction between constant-torque and constant-airflow blowers especially important. R951T, R962V and the Prestige modulating models are not interchangeable simply because they all fit within the high-efficiency category.

Canadian evidence
Current Rheem Canada catalog lists the reviewed gas-furnace families.
Follow the Canadian catalog and installation orientation
The Canadian catalog identifies R98MV as an upflow modulating furnace and R97MV as the downflow or horizontal modulating choice. R962V is a four-way multi-position two-stage option. These labels affect the physical installation, so an efficiency-only ranking can recommend a furnace that does not match the existing duct arrangement.
For each proposal, put the return-air direction, supply-air direction and proposed filter access on a simple measured sketch. The cabinet height alone does not prove fit when a coil, plenum, drain arrangement and service space must also be accommodated. Ask the contractor to identify any planned changes before agreeing to the price.
Separate motor type from heating stages
R951T uses a constant-torque motor, whereas the reviewed R962V and modulating Prestige descriptions identify constant-CFM operation. A two-stage gas valve does not by itself establish variable airflow behaviour. Have the quote state both characteristics and the thermostat needed for the intended functions.
The R962V web catalog displayed a capacity range that aligns with the low-fire input values in the linked technical sheet rather than its high-fire heating-capacity row. This guide uses the clearly labelled specification fields. Ask for the precise capacity row rather than accepting an unlabeled BTU number from a product tile.
Evaluate the complete Endeavor proposal
For an EcoNet-enabled system, identify what is included today and what is merely compatible for a later upgrade. App-based commissioning, remote alerts and a communicating thermostat are different functions. The handover should explain access, account ownership and operation without a cloud connection where relevant.
A Rheem comparison becomes more useful when the dealer supplies the furnace model, matched indoor coil where present, controls, measured installation requirements and a written labour commitment. If a higher price is explained by substantial vent or duct work, have that work described with quantities and photographs so a second contractor can assess the same scope.
R98MV is the upflow Prestige modulating choice in Rheem’s Canadian catalog. The manufacturer describes modulation from 40% to 100%, allowing the installer to discuss both peak capacity and lower-load operation. This is a furnace profile, not a guarantee that the home will save a particular dollar amount or reach every room evenly.
R97MV is the downflow or horizontal Prestige modulating option in the Canadian catalog. It should be compared with furnaces that can serve the same air-direction requirement. Ranking it below an upflow98% model without considering the installation could produce an irrelevant recommendation.
R962V is the four-way multi-position two-stage Endeavor Classic Plus family. It adds constant-airflow and EcoNet-related functionality to the comparison. During research its product tile used a capacity band that did not represent the high-fire heating-capacity row in the linked sheet, so a clearly labelled technical table is especially important.
R951T is the simpler constant-torque Endeavor Classic choice in the Canadian lineup. A95% gas furnace can still be a different proposition from a 96% two-stage or98% modulating model because the burner control, fan behaviour and included thermostat also differ. Do not collapse the decision into a single efficiency number.

Comparison basis
The reviewed Canadian catalog does not publish a complete installed price. Ask for a Canadian-dollar total before and after tax, with controls, venting, drainage, electrical work, disposal and labour warranty identified. Do not import US incentive or price statements into a Toronto quotation.
Direct-spark ignition, drain monitoring and diagnostic functions describe how the equipment is designed and serviced. Marketing claims such as quieter or more reliable are not comparable failure statistics. No Canadian model-by-model failure ranking is asserted here.
Evidence
Manufacturer specifications describe construction, controls and warranty terms. They do not supply comparable Canadian field-failure rates.
Limitations
No verified, model-controlled Canadian failure-rate dataset was found in this research. Warranty duration is not a reliability score.
